Welcome to
Wise Globetrotter!

Hello! My name is Anna Barnes. I grew up in North Carolina, where I still live with my husband and son. I loved traveling even as a child. With my family I’d vacation at the beach, take day trips to the mountains to hike, and travel to visit relatives. And I fondly remember our two-week trip “out west” when I was 12. We traveled simply, but the earth’s natural beauty made an impression on me.

Every time I go away I relish the change in landscape, culture, and routine. But I have a confession to make: I didn’t fly on an airplane until I was 25! Honestly, my home state has so much to offer that I didn’t feel like I was missing out. We have taken some farther trips though, including four incredible Caribbean cruises. When our son was born, he started traveling with us. Our favorite vacation with him so far was in the summer of 2019 to New England, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.

One of the reasons I started this website is that I am a detailed planner. As a child I’d spend hours flipping through tour guides to find the best accommodations and activities, and I still enjoy planning the itinerary. When I plan, I rely on information from more experienced travelers. I hope to be able to share what I’m learning with you!

My mission is to help you make wise decisions so you can relax and enjoy your time away.

Where do I get my information?

I plan and write all of the articles on this site. I spend a lot of time researching and reading reviews from users so I can give accurate information about the pros and cons of the travel gear I recommend. I haven’t tested most of the products in person, but I will only recommend gear that I would use myself based on my research.

Much of my travel advice is based on my experience or issues I’ve researched to be informed for my own travel.

Why should you listen to me?

Everyone has an opinion on the best way to travel. With so many decisions to make, it can feel overwhelming to get started planning a trip. You want reliable gear and advice from real travelers. I haven’t traveled as much as others, but I put a lot of effort into my research. I gather the best information I can find and then share it with you.

What will you get out of this site?

So why should you read the information on my site?

If you identify with these statements, I think you’ll find value here:

  • You want to travel confidently and comfortably.
  • You want travel gear that you can rely on.
  • You want to be sure that you are making the wisest choices in planning so that you can relax and be spontaneous.

My goal is to offer practical advice that makes your path clear. I hope your trip is a fantastic experience!
